Preterm Premature Rupture Of Membrane - PPROM I Dr. Girija Lakshmi I

"Premature rupture of membranes or Rupture of membranes generally happens at the time of your delivery, that is once you have reached your full after 37 weeks. But if at all these rupture of membranes happen even before 37 weeks that is in between 34 to 37 that's when we call it as Premature rupture and Pre premature rupture which happens even before 34 weeks that is your amniotic bag is open all of your amniotic fluid is leaking out. So this is one of the causative factors to release a hormone which is called as oxytocin. The bag is completely open and this causes uterine contractions and delivery the most important causative factors for PPR are infections. If there is any kind of a urinary tract infection, if you've had repeated fevers during a pregnancy if there is any kind of a vaginal infection. So this is the reason urine examination is done routinely even if you do not present with any symptoms as well as vaginal swabs are taken for culture just to rule out if there is any kind of a bacterial or fungal infection happening inside the womb so that to rule out you might go into a PPROM"
