It is not recommended to jump during pregnancy. Pregnancy causes the uterus to expand and put pressure on the pelvic floor muscles and cervix. Jumping with the baby’s weight in the uterus will increase this pressure and increase the risk of vaginal bleeding and preterm labour.
Any movements that exert pressure on the cervix, like jumping and vigorous exercises, should be avoided. Activities that increase the risk of falling, like gymnastics or skiing, should also be avoided. It is not safe to engage in contact sports like basketball, football, wrestling, or kickboxing either. Horseback riding and cycling are also not recommended unless you are used to it and your doctor approves.
No, it is not okay to jump during pregnancy as it can increase the pressure on the uterus and cervix. Repeated jerky movements with the added weight of the baby can cause the cervix to weaken or open up and result in preterm delivery. It can also cause amniotic fluid to leak.
It is not possible to avoid sudden movements during pregnancy. Don’t worry, it will not harm the baby as the uterus and the amniotic fluid offer good layers of protection for the baby. However, hard contact, or sudden forceful movements that put too much pressure on the bump, may not be safe. If you feel pain or discomfort after such movements, you should consult a doctor immediately.
