Update on Your Body

You are not likely to experience any new changes in these last few weeks of pregnancy. You may have gained little or no weight this week. However, certain changes have been occurring inside you to get your body ready for childbirth. One of them is effacement of the ripening of the cervix. Your cervix will gradually soften, shorten and elongate to allow your baby to pass through it. Effacement occurs after your baby has dropped into your pelvis and the head is closer to your cervix.

Update on Your Baby

Your baby will start forming new skin cells that will replace the old cells, and he or she will continue to form fat under the skin. The body’s temperature regulation system is developing rapidly too. This is important, as your baby will need this system upon birth, outside the protective environment of your womb.
