Do You Suffer from Prolapse of Genital Organs

April 24, 2023

A pelvic floor is a group of muscles located in the pelvic area that support the organs in the pelvis, such as the bladder, uterus (in women), prostate (in men) and rectum. Pelvic floor dysfunction occurs when these muscles weaken and it is important to be aware of its symptoms.

Childbirth is a common cause of pelvic floor dysfunction as the muscles can be overstretched during delivery. Symptoms to watch for include stress urinary incontinence, which is when small amounts of urine leak during coughing, laughing or lifting weights. This can be embarrassing and unhygienic, causing some women to isolate themselves and avoid public functions due to shame.

Other symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction may include a bulge at the vaginal opening while straining, incomplete evacuation of urine or stools and difficulty controlling the passage of gas or stool.

Pelvic floor exercises can help in the early stages of the condition and maintaining an adequate amount of calcium and vitamin D in the diet may also be beneficial. Biofeedback is another method that can be used to re-train the pelvic floor muscles to function better.

Surgery is considered the most effective way to treat pelvic floor dysfunction. These surgeries are usually done through the vaginal route, thus avoiding any external scars or cuts on the abdomen. During surgery, the defect in the fascia is repaired and the anatomy is restored.

In conclusion, it is important to prevent pelvic floor dysfunction and seek treatment if you are experiencing any of its symptoms. Do not hesitate to visit a gynaecologist to discuss your options for treatment. With the proper care, you can enjoy life to the fullest and be carefree.
