If you are planning a pregnancy, ensure you are within the recommended BMI range for your age and weight. Being underweight or overweight can influence the implantation process. This does not mean people weighing less or more than their required BMI can’t get pregnant. An ideal weight range increases the chances of pregnancy.
If your BMI is below 18.5, it is too low to conceive, and if it is above 25, it is too high to conceive. Women who are underweight or overweight may take more time to conceive, but it is still possible. Many women have successful pregnancies, with or without complications, despite differences in weight.
It depends on how heavy you are. In many cases, overweight women go on to have successful pregnancies. However, the risk of complications to the mother or the fetus is high if you are overweight. Very heavy women may need a few more attempts or assistance in getting pregnant.
There is no fixed weight limit for a successful pregnancy. The general recommendation is that underweight women should gain 13-18 kg during pregnancy, while women of normal weight should gain 11-16 kg, and overweight women should not gain more than 11.5 kg.
