December 3, 2020

Seeing one’s baby in pain, especially due to constipation is a great misery for parents. If one’s child has just started eating solid foods and is finding it difficult to pass stools or has dry and hard stool, this means the baby is suffering from constipation. Constipation is majorly caused due to a lack of fiber in the diet and also due to less water intake. In case the baby  is suffering from constipation, including the following high-fiber foods in the baby’s diet could be useful.

Mentioned below are a list of foods that should relieve the condition and prevent it from occurring recurrently:

  • Prunes
  • Raisin water /big black raisins
  • Beans
  • Green Peas

  • Apricots
  • Oatmeal
  • Pears
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach and other green leafy vegetables
  • Berries

Signs to watch out for in case a baby is constipated:

  • He or she would have less than three bowel movements per week
  • The stool may be hard and dry
  • They will have a hard time releasing and excreting the stool

Preventing constipation in babies is the best thing in such a condition.

  • In case the baby is over 6 months of age and has been started on complementary foods, water needs to be given after every semisolid feed.
  • Before six months all its hydration comes through breast milk.
  • Including foods that contain fiber and giving more water can help move stools easily through the baby’s intestines.
