Know why to never ignore Irregular periods? | Dr. Prasuna Rani
"Yeah, you should never ignore an irregular period because that can end up having other health issues also. When you have an irregular period for once you can ignore it because any two or more irregular periods require investigations and treatment. One cycle or two cycles disturbed could be because of any external factors like you know any lifestyle changes any stress you are undergoing or any minor issues or you had a fever in that month or any other infection can disturb your cycle. But if more than two cycles are disturbed then that's the time you should not ignore it go to your gynecologist get checked up find the reason and get treated. A delay of up to 45 days we consider it is normal. If you get your cycle within 45 it's okay but if you haven't got your cycle even more than 45 days it's best to see your gynecologist and get advice"
Is it normal to have Irregular periods during Puberty?
"Having irregular Cycles in the first 3 years after puberty is very very common. Why? This is because of the immaturity of the HPA axis. That means the brain releases certain hormones that will affect the ovary and then the ovary releases some hormones and then that will have an effect on the uterus and will cause menstruation. So when this axis from the brain to the ovary to the uterus will be immature in the initial years like in the first 3 years. So irregularity in the hormone release will be there. So irregularity in the cycle will be there. So you don't have to worry in the first 3 years post-puberty you only have to worry in this also when you have uncontrolled heavy bleeding. When the girl is losing lots of blood and becoming anemic it's affecting her general health. Then yes you should be worried about it. Otherwise, if you're getting cycles once in 3 months or once in 2 months and you have scanty flow then don't worry you just wait till the end of 3 years. Your cycles become regular as by themselves we can only reassure but yes if you are having very heavy flow you're losing a lot of blood. That's when is a point of concern"
Can a girl get pregnant if she has Irregular Periods? | Dr. Prasuna Rani P
"I can say there is a "Yes" and "No" to it. When you have irregular periods the main problem is your ovulation. If you are ovulating regularly only you can become pregnant. But when you have irregular menstruation your ovulation cannot be marked or identified. Sometimes in irregular menstruation, you will have an ovulation that the girl or the woman won't ovulate. So when there is no ovulation there is no pregnancy. When there is irregular ovulation where you cannot point it out. By chance, if you have intercourse during the time of your ovulation then you can become pregnant. So the chances of becoming pregnant will be very very low when you have irregular cycles because we cannot predict your ovulation and anovulation is a most common finding in irregular periods. So when there is anovulation you cannot become pregnant. So when you have irregular periods and you want to conceive you have to first regularize your cycles you want to have ovulated cycles then only the pregnancy possibility is there"
Causes of irregular periods after delivery? | Dr. Prasuna Rani
"After a delivery usually you won't be having cycles for a few months depending upon your breastfeeding. If you're breastfeeding your baby you may not have your cycles for 3 months 4 months 6 months or anything. But once you're just raining off your from breastfeeding the cycle irregularity can happen. Again mostly it's because of the prolactin hormone which is important for breastfeeding. When this hormone is at a higher level you may not have your Cycles or you may have transient irregular cycles. But you don't have to worry about two to three Cycles yes little disturbed and then the regular pattern sets in. So you don't have to worry when you're breastfeeding or having irregular cycles. But the only thing you should be worried about is not to have any unpredicted intercourse. Because still a possibility of pregnancy is there and for the irregular cycles post childbirth don't have to worry about waiting for two to three cycles if it's still behaving irregularly then you'll see a gynecologist"
What is Intermenstrual bleeding or Metrorrhagia? | Dr. Prasuna Rani
"Intermenstrual bleeding or Metrorrhagia is when you have to bleed apart from your regular cycle that's in between your menstruation if you're bleeding it can be a spotting. It can be bleeding for a day or two but if it happens to happen in between your cycles it is intermenstral bleeding or Metrorrhagia. The most common causes are infections like cervicitis can cause intermenstrual bleeding. Any polyps in your cervix or uterus can cause intermenstrual bleeding. This is usually seen post-intercourse. So infections and polyps are the most common reasons apart from hormonal imbalance and intermenstrual bleeding. When you present with such bleedings in between your cycles get investigated like you know get an ultrasound scan done, get your hormonal testing done. If you identify any cause treating the cause can relieve you of this. "
IRREGULAR PERIOD Main Causes & Treatment | Dr.Prasuna Rani P
"Irregular menstruation is when the regular pattern is missing in your cycles. It's called irregular menstruation. So to know what is irregular you should know what's a regular menstruation. Regular menstruation is a pattern. It happens at regular interval levels every month. Mostly with certain days of bleeding and certain days of gap normal menstruation can range from 22 days to 45 days and the flow will range from 2 days to 7 days. If this pattern is missing then it's called irregular menstruation. Even if this pattern is missing in the regular number of days like you know if you have a cycle of 25 days in one month and 40 days in another month if you bleed for 2 days in a month and you bleed for 7 days in a month that is also called as an irregular menstruation or it can be haywire away from the normal pattern then also it's called as an irregular menstruation. The most common cause for irregular menstruation is hormonal because menstruation depends upon the hormone released from the ovary and the brain. So any hormonal disturbances you end up with having irregular menstruation. It can be hormones from the ovary or it can be apart from the ovary like any thyroid issues so hormonal imbalance is the most common reason. The next reason is what we call drug-induced use if you have taken any drugs in that month for any other reasons or if you had any medical or other health issues and you have taken the cycles can get disturbed. The third important thing is structural anomalies like you have any fibroid polyps in your cervix or your uterus or any cyst in your ovary can also disturb your cycles. Other reasons like any stress-related issues, weight gain weight loss issues, any change in the climate, or any change in your lifestyle can also disturb your cycles"
