Pregnancy is the most beautiful journey in a woman's life but is also a physical as well as an emotional roller-coaster ride. For a healthy pregnancy, you need to start making positive changes and efforts even before you get pregnant, and continue the same throughout the pregnancy. The apprehension about what to expect and the right course of action can be quite daunting. All these concerns can add to the stress, which is unhealthy and can negatively affect the pregnancy. Prenatal counselling prepares you in advance to start your pregnancy on a healthy note. It gives you a chance to talk about all your concerns, clear your doubts and myths, and make the required healthy lifestyle changes for a healthy pregnancy outcome.
Prenatal counselling is preventive medical care for pregnant women. It starts at the onset and continues throughout the pregnancy. It is provided to ensure you have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. It aims at reducing the chances of any adverse medical conditions and complications through early detection and timely intervention.
It includes regular visits with your doctor at regular intervals. Depending on the gestational age, you are advised on diet, exercise, medications, scan and lab tests. Guidance on how to deal with emotional changes is one of the key components.

During the first visit, we start with confirmation of pregnancy. Your detailed medical, surgical and obstetric history helps us guide you to make the required changes. Proper dietary changes are the first step towards a healthy outcome. You are counselled about the medication that can be taken during pregnancy. If you are already on certain medications, it might need revision. We discuss the symptoms that are normal in pregnancy and inform you about the ones for which you need to see your doctor immediately.
In subsequent visits, we monitor the growth of the baby and suggest changes in the routine and medication based on that. Required scans and lab tests are recommended. Vaccines are administered at particular intervals. Regular follow-ups with the in-house nutritionist and physiotherapist are recommended to achieve the desired outcome.
At every visit, we inquire about your mental health and any issues if at all, and you are offered proper guidance to overcome them.
In the last few visits, you will receive information about the different modes of delivery depending on the pregnancy journey. You will be informed about what to expect during labour, how to prepare for labour and the different types of labour analgesia available so you can make informed decisions.
Prenatal counselling ensures you have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby with an emphasis on healthy lifestyle changes.
