Understanding NIPT in Prenatal Care

In this video, Dr. Archana Rawat from Cloudnine Hospital, Dwarka, New Delhi, explains the importance of prenatal testing, especially NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing). She shares how NIPT - a simple blood test done after 10 weeks - screens for conditions like Down syndrome, trisomy 13 & 18, and certain sex chromosome disorders with very high accuracy. Dr. Archana also discusses who should consider NIPT, including women above 35, those with abnormal scans, positive screening results, or a history of genetic concerns. She highlights the advantages of NIPT, its limitations, and why high-risk results must be confirmed with diagnostic tests like amniocentesis or CVS. She concludes by emphasising that NIPT is a major advancement that helps parents make informed decisions early in pregnancy.
