Recognising Postpartum Depression-A Guide for New Mothers

In this video, Dr. Jasleen Kaur Malhotra, Senior Consultant & Director at Cloudnine Hospital, Sector 13, Dwarka, explains postpartum depression - a mood disorder that can develop anytime from the first few weeks after delivery up to one year. She highlights that hormonal changes, emotional stress, lack of sleep, and difficulties in caring for a newborn are major triggers. Symptoms include sadness, anxiety, excessive crying, low energy, withdrawal, and in severe cases, thoughts of self-harm. Risk factors include a history of anxiety or depression, traumatic deliveries, complications in the baby, and extreme fatigue. Treatment involves therapy, safe antidepressants, strong family support, rest, good nutrition, and staying connected with loved ones.
