How can Backache be Managed Safely During Pregnancy

Backache is one of the most common complaints among expectant mothers, especially during the second and third trimesters. Dr. Jasleen Kaur Malhotra, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Cloudnine Hospital, Dwarka, New Delhi, explains why back pain occurs during pregnancy and how it can be effectively managed. Dr. Malhotra highlights the importance of posture correction, regular prenatal exercises, yoga, and short walks to strengthen the back and core muscles. She also recommends simple measures such as sleeping on the left side with a pillow between the knees, using warm compresses, and taking doctor-prescribed pain relief if needed. However, she cautions that if back pain is accompanied by vaginal bleeding, fever, or radiating pain down the legs, it could indicate an underlying issue that requires immediate medical attention.
