Babies are born with around 275 to 300 bones, made entirely of cartilage (a type of flexible connective tissue). As the baby grows older, bone tissue will replace the cartilage, and the bones will start to fuse together. By adulthood, the total number of bones will reduce to 206.
The lacrimal glands in the eyes are responsible for producing tears. As this gland is usually underdeveloped in newborns, they will cry without shedding any tears. Once the glands begin to develop, at around 1 to 3 months, tears will be produced and will start to flow while they cry.
