What is Breastfeeding Jaundice? How do you treat breastfeeding jaundice? - Dr. Madhavi R S
"So normally we don't tell a mother that your baby has breastfeeding jaundice. Because then she'll stop breastfeeding but usually breastfeeding jaundice is a type of jaundice that typically presents after seventh day of life and it can last for 2 weeks but that type of jaundice may not need phototherapy and that typically occurs because of some enzyme related issues which can be sorted out by continuously breastfeeding itself. So whenever a baby has breastfeeding jaundice there is no specific test for it. It mainly is diagnosed based on elimination your doctor thinks that your baby has breastfeeding jaundice. The doctor will advise you to continue breastfeeding and the levels of jaundice will not be so high that the baby will need phototherapy also. Breastfeeding jaundice vs breast milk jaundice | Breastfeeding jaundice baby | Jaundice and breastfeeding newborn | Neonatal jaundice approach | Breastfeeding and jaundice | Newborn baby jaundice normal range | Newborn baby jaundice treatment | Breast milk jaundice and breastfeeding jaundice | Neonatal jaundice case presentation | Neonatal jaundice care plan | Breastmilk vs breastfeeding jaundice | Neonatal jaundice explained | Breastfeeding failure jaundice | Breast milk and breastfeeding jaundice | Neonatal jaundice management | Neonatal jaundice medication | Neonatal jaundice made easy | Neonatal jaundice NICU | Neonatal jaundice pathophysiology | Neonatal jaundice phototherapy"
PAINFUL BREASTFEEDING - Causes & Treatment I Dr. Madhavi R S
"Some of the causes of painful breast feeding are a nipple sores or there can be some infection in the breast which is called mastitis or there can be pocket of infection in the breast called breast abscess and some mothers can have vague pain following breastfeeding. So one of the important strategies to prevent breast pain or treat breast pain is correct latching technique where and you allow the baby to suck at least for 10 to 15 minutes so that the breast is drained well and some hot fermentation before breastfeeding and cold fermentation after breastfeeding with gentle massage just before you start hot fermentation can help drain the duct better and it is always advisable to meet your gynecologist or pediatrician in case you develop fever along with breast pain"
BREASTFEEDING DURATION | Is baby getting milk? I Dr. Madhavi R S
"During each feeding session the baby has to nurse as much as the baby wants. Usually most of the time the feeding sessions are 10 to 15 minutes on each side and if a initial day if the baby wants to feed longer you can allow that maybe half an hour on each side also. So how do we know that a mother is getting enough milk which is sufficient for the baby? The first and easy cue is after feeding for a few minutes the baby will sleep and this sleep will last for at least 1 to 1 and a half an hour time and that is in the initial one week and usually after the initial one week if the milk supply is adequate then the baby will sleep for 2 to 3 hours. The second cue is adequate weight gain and third cue is good number of urine per day at least six per day. From Mother's point of view sleeping comfortably for at least 1 and a half to 2 hours can be taken as sufficient milk production"
Cracked Nipples when Breastfeeding & Treatment I Dr. Madhavi R S
"The most common cause of sore nipples are poor latching and usually in first time mothers since they do not have adequate experience to help the baby latch and if they do not have adequate support then poor latching can occur and this can lead to nipple sores and other causes of nipple sores are breastfeeding even after the breast milk is over. So some babies continue to feed for 45 minutes 1 hour and the mother is not able to assess that she doesn't have adequate milk. Then nipple sores can be there or mother can develop subtle infections in the nipple area most likely fungal infection and that can lead to nipple sores and improper care of nipples like applying lot of soap or some people do not know that you should not put these hand rubs and other things to the nipples for cleaning and these are the common causes of nipple sores and when you identify nipples sores. First correct the latching position of the baby and if required you can give some topical ointments or other medication as needed"
