Babies are constantly growing from the time they are born. Their growing little body and brain need proper nutrition. During the first 6 months, babies receive all the nutrients and minerals from the mother’s milk.

1) Banana  

Bananas are easily available in the market and are good first food for babies. Bananas are rich in potassium and are good in taste. Bananas are good for the digestive system and give energy. You just need to mash it well so that it’s easy for your baby to eat.

2) Apples

Fruits are healthy for your baby and you. Peel of the apples and boil and mash them, to make it soft and preferable for your child.

3) Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a good source of potassium, vitamin A and fiber. Sweet potatoes can be boiled and mashed and can be given to your baby. It is sweet in taste, appealing to most babies and easy to prepare.

4) Rice

Rice is a great first food for most babies - it is easy to cook, digest and absorb. Rice has to be washed well, cooked well, pureed or mashed and given to the baby. It is one of the most well-tolerated first foods for your little one.

5) Carrots

Carrots are a good source of vitamin A and very healthy for your child. Boiled pureed or mashed carrots can be given to your baby.

6) Dhals

Simple dehusked dhals like mung dhal can be a great protein and iron-rich first food for your baby. The entire grain has to be thoroughly washed and cooked well and mashed well and given as a puree to the baby. Avoid giving only the water [dhal paani] part of it- the entire mash/puree has to be given to prevent loss of nutrients.

7) Egg-yolk

Egg yolk can be started for your baby only around 7 months of age. Egg yolk contains iron, choline, zinc, vitamin A D E & B12. Boiled egg yolk can be added to mashed rice or mashed potato for your baby. Avoid giving white till the baby is 1 year old, to avoid any allergic reactions.
