    Job Responsibilities:

    OBG:

    • Share the responsibility for Antenatal Care, Labour Ward cover, Gynecological Out-Patient Clinics, Theatre sessions and emergency duties.
    • Carry out correspondence and liaison with general practitioners and other members of the health care team and review results of investigations which arise as a consequence of these clinical and administrative duties.
    • Participate in other administrative duties of the post which are those that normally fall to a Registrar and are designated by the Consultant of the Unit to which the person is attached.
    • Participation in clinical audit, risk management and clinical governance according to local policies and protocols.
    • Maintain the OBG database and present the same at the perinatal meetings.

    PED/NEO:

    • Manage outpatients and inpatients under the supervision of specialists.
    • Should play a role in the teaching of Resident Medical Officers, nursing staff and medical students.
    • Work in rotation in the maternity hospital and contribute to gaining clinical experience in the diagnosis and management of acute neonatal problems, especially those associated with immaturity.
    • Maintain a high level of competence in delivery room resuscitation, ventilatory management of acute respiratory diseases, continuous monitoring and nutritional support of the very preterm or very sick newborn.
    • Assess, assist, communicate and play an active part in the diagnosis and management of a variety of neonatal disorders including a significant proportion with congenital anomalies and in the post-operative care of major neonatal surgical problems.
    • Registrars are strongly encouraged to be involved in their own research project.
    • Registrars are expected to attend and actively participate in as many Hospital meetings and lectures etc as possible.
    • Assist in the delivery room during high risk pregnancies, cesareans sections or any other time there may be a critical issue with a baby.
    • Work with staff to stabilize and treat any condition faced by the baby.
    • After the birth of the baby and when the baby is stabilized, assist and coordinate in the diagnosis and treatment of newborns with conditions such as breathing disorder, infections and birth defects.
    • Work with the team in putting together a plan of action and coordinate the care of premature and ill newborns.
    • Maintain Neonatal Database and present the same at the perinatal meetings.

    Triage Duties:

    • Should know how to handle/educate oneself with the use of the PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)/NALS (Neonatal Advanced Life Support).
    • Able to identify, treat mild and severe grade of illness, stabilize and treat appropriately.
