Cloudnine lays a lot of emphasis with its doctors on teaching and research. There are ample opportunities for formal and informal teaching on the Neonatal Unit. The registrars and fellows work in a structured way in order to maximise his/her use of these opportunities. There is easy access to computers on the NICU. These give access to major medical databases including Medline and the Cochrane Database. In addition, excellent library facilities exist in all Cloudnine hospitals.
We have a regular CME programme on every alternate Wednesday. During this meeting, interesting cases/articles are discussed. The grand round happens regularly once a week on Tuesdays. All consultants attend the grand round, interesting and complicated cases are discussed in this meeting. Furthermore, Consultants teach on basic neonatal topics every Friday. We also have obstetric meeting once in a month. A perinatal mortality and morbidity meeting with the obstetricians is held once in 3 months. These meetings are conducted in all units with the positive reinforcement to improve outcomes. These encourage peer learning and improvement of clinical skills, with the key objective of identifying root causes and proliferating learning. Below is the outline of our weekly teaching programme.
